VoIP
Voice over IP is a way of making a call over the internet. With the Octalarm alarm dialler, this is done using the SIP protocol.
Activate supplied SIM card
To use the 24/7 monitored Adésys servers, you can activate the SIM card provided during onboarding. This allows the user to subscribe to the all-in service Octalarm Connect. Customers can also choose to take out a VoIP only subscription.
Good to know: if you did not opt for Octalarm Connect during onboarding, you can still activate this all-in service via
Settings
|Octalarm Connect
or viaRemote setup
. See The portal: portal.octalarm.com|Remote setup (global) and Remote setup (local) for further explanation.
See Octalarm Connect for more information and read how to activate this additional service.
When using Octalarm Connect, the SIP server for VoIP is set to Octalarm Portal
by default.
Using your own SIP server
If you do not plan to use a dedicated SIP server, you can skip this section.
Note: Direct Media (or Direct Routing) is not supported. To avoid problems with NAT (Network Address Translation), lack of audio or non-recognition of DTMF keys, the proprietary SIP server must always be in the media path between the Octalarm alarm dialler and the telephone number to be called.
